While the Teknetics G2 is clad in the all too familiar black and silver colour scheme don’t let a more old fashioned approach to design stop you from enjoying this quality detector. The Teknetics G2 is easy to slot together and features extra padding along the arm grip for extra comfort and it also features Velcro straps for ease of carrying and a separate adjustable arm strap.

The LCD display may look a little old fashioned but it still gives a clear and crisp display that you can easily keep track off. However one small downside to be aware of is that the Teknetics G2 unfortunately doesn’t have a backlight meaning using it at night or in darker environments is going to be tricky.

The user interface also features thumb controls and membrane style touch buttons for extra ease of use. The Teknetics G2 Metal Detector really is a mix of the old and the new when it comes to design and altogether it works very well.

The Teknetics G2 Metal Detector is a favourite of the gold and coin collector which is unusual when you consider the detectors high frequency of 19 khz. But because of its high-power and accuracy the Teknetics G2 really is a great choice for gold and coin hunters.

Furthermore, there pre-set patterns installed in the X-Terra 705 that allow you to discriminate between different metals. The first pattern targets non-ferrous materials, namely precious metals like gold and silver, while most ferrous materials are discriminated.

The second pattern also searches for non-ferrous while discriminating certain ferrous materials, namely foil. This does sound similar to the first pattern, but the patterns do distinguish different metal conductivity and composition, and you do get use to the nuance of pattern the more you use them.

The third pattern searches for certain ferrous materials while discriminating most of the unwanted signals from junk like foil, nails, ring-pulls etc., making it especially good for relic hunting. Finally, the fourth pattern discriminates against most ferrous while accepting some, searching for most non-ferrous.

These patterns allow users to get a better feel for the various discriminations available with the X-Terra 705, and the fact they are all customisable is very good news. For instance, you can adjust the ground balance, discrimination, and iron mask in each pattern to find the exact specs for what you’re hunting, which experienced users are certainly going to appreciate using.

Known for creating quality metal detectors that are as close to a professional device as you can in this price-range, the CTX 3030 is yet another premium detector that comes with a range of awesome features that detectorist enthusiasts will appreciate.

Those that are new to the world of metal detecting may find the CTX 3030 difficult to operate at first, as there are several advanced features that require some experience to come to grips with. Thankfully, instructions are included with the CTX 3030, and even those that are used to using metal detectors should read over this manual to get the most from the product.

As an all-terrain metal detector, the CTX 3030 is very robust, featuring a weighty design that doesn’t feel too heavy or cumbersome. It is heavier than most standard detectors however, weighing over 2kg when fully assembled.

One of the most impressive aspects of the CTX 3030 is the advanced control box. Unlike most metal detectors, it features a fully coloured LCD display screen, making menu navigation and adjusting settings that bit easier.

While the hardware is certainly impressive it doesn’t add too much in terms of weight and size. The total weight is around 1.8kg with the coil and stem combined, which is on the heavier side compared to certain detectors, but the high-performance makes it more than worth it.

Delivered in five separate parts, constructing the Minelab Safari isn’t difficult. Connect to the two portions of the stem together, combine this with the coil and control box, and then finish of off by adding the arm support strap.

The steam can be adjusted too if it’s too long or short, which is great because you always want the correct length to avoid straining your back when using the detector. With a maximum length of 54 inches, it should be fine for taller people, while the minimum length of 43 inches is fine for anyone shorter – it may not be too good for children though, espiecally given the heavier weight.

At first glance, the settings on the control box may seem daunting, but they are relatively straight-forward to learn. For instance, there is a clear display on the LCD screen that highlights all the detectors info, including depth, identification, battery life, and what mode is in use.

With 11 buttons it does seem like a lot to learn, but most of these are rather basic in their function. For example, you have a power button, navigation buttons, and accept/reject buttons, while there are four mode options surrounding the screen.

The pre-set modes just require one hit and you start searching for specific metals using discrimination to distinguish between various items. It’s standard modes for a metal detector, with all metal mode, relic mode, coin mode, and coin and jewellery modes available.

These are ideal for those that aren’t that experienced with how to set their detector for more precising searching, while the option to create a custom search mode will certainly appeal to experience users that know what they’re looking for.

So, with intuitive pre-set modes and customisable options, the Minelab Safari has something to offer beginners and advance detectorists alike. Granted, the price may be off-putting for those new to detecting, but it’s certainly an investment worth making for those serious about their hobby.

Another useful pre-set is relic mode. By discriminating against smaller iron items while keeping the conductivity scale, relic mode searches for those hidden relics made from materials such as brass and bronze.

Like most detectors, there is also a pre-set coin mode, which helps to find coins by discriminating against smaller metals like ring pulls, pieces of iron, old foil etc.  As the Garrett EuroACE is designed for European users, it’s tuned to search for common European coin shapes and sizes.

The last pre-set is zero mode, which is basically just all-metal mode.

These modes are made better by the inclusion of the new enhanced iron resolution feature from Garret. This basically allows more distinction between different types of iron in the ground, giving the user the chance to adjust iron discrimination levels to very precise settings.

This means that you should find less trash and other useless junk in the ground when using the Garrett EuroACE, which is why it’s so popular with metal detecting enthusiasts.

Another gear feature is the double-D PROformance search coil. This is a powerful new addition to the Garrett EuroACE and one that greatly improves performance, particularly with depth detection, while it has unique shape that allows it to achieve more ground coverage for a coil of this size

The 8.5kHz frequency is certainly an impressive inclusion with the Garrett EuroACE, allowing the detector to have a much higher accuracy when detecting small objects. This is especially good for targeting rarer finds such as gold and is one of the big reasons why the Garrett EuroACE is viewed so highly.

While the depth detection isn’t as impressive as some of the other features, an average detection rate of 8-inches is still a good level of performance for a metal detector, although this may be less common depending on the ground conditions.

For when detecting in those loud or crowded locations, the Garrett EuroACE comes with Garrett’s clear sound easy stow headphones, which simply connect to the detector for in-ear audio detection.

The INTEY pinpoint metal detector offers an all-in-one metal detecting package that is perfect for those picking up the hobby, although those with plenty of experience using metal detectors will certainly like what they see too.

Perhaps the most notable function of the INTEY Pinpoint metal detector is its accuracy. This is a highly accurate metal detector, meaning the results are always going to be much better when out in the wild hunting for treasure.

This is thanks to the pinpoint function which isn’t found in other detectors. When using a traditional detector, locating the metal is only half the battle – you then need to find the particular area it’s buried in and at what dept.

Pinpointing helps to get an accurate reading on the area the metal is buried, helping to isolate the area in the ground, resulting in much quicker detection. Doing so not only helps quickly find lots of treasure but helps to avoid damaging it when digging as you know the exact area where it’s buried.

Simply hit the red button on the device, and start sweeping around for a strong signal, passing over areas a few times to ensure the best results. It’s very effective, and when using high sensitivity, the detector is very capable of finding plenty of items.

Personalised metal detecting further enhances the accuracy of the INTEY. For instance, the detector has discrimination, meaning it finds and differentiates between metals, using their magnetic responses to know what metals are being detected.

As a result, you can use the INTEY to find a variety of buried treasures, from coins to jewellery to gold nuggets. To look for certain items, simply adjust the settings to discriminate against items you don’t want to find and then start searching.

For instance, the INTEY detector can discriminate between iron, zinc, coppers, and even pull-rings, the latter of which is very useful for avoiding junk metal that only wastes your time. While it doesn’t find non-copper coins, it’s still very effective at locating those older coins buried in the ground.

You do need to be mindful of how to use detection however. Using the all metal setting does widen your net for finding different objects but will also detect a lot of trash buried in the ground, so you may need to play around with the settings for finding certain items.

That said, there is a very useful user guide that gives plenty of information about how to best use discrimination and the other detecting functions to best locate buried metals, so it should be easy enough to get used to.

An adjustable stem is a good feature too, as it makes for much more comfortable detecting by allowing you to set to correct length according to your height. As metal detecting is typically time consuming, it’s a great way to avoid straining your back from being hunched over all the time.

The stem extends from 29.9 to 40.1 inches, so should be able to cover most average heights, with enough length settings to accommodate most children too.

The INTEY also comes with an ear jack and adjustable volume. This is quite useful for various settings where you don’t want to be too disturbing to others, such as out in the streets or down by the beach, while it’s also great for getting better sound detection when out in noisy areas.

One often-overlooked aspect of metal detecting is fatigue. Carrying around a metal detector for several hours is tiring on the hands, arms and back, which is why the unique arc design of the arm support on the INTEY is a fantastic feature.
